What it does
Merecal is a media release notification service featuring both current and upcoming books, DVSs, Blu-ray discs, music and video games. By employing information taken straight from Amazon, the user remains fully abreast of all these releases that are lining up in a centralized location. And by clicking on the item link for any specific release he is taken to Amazon where he can easily pre-order or purchase that specific item.
Browsing the website is intuitive enough. The user can sift items by release date and see what is coming this Monday even if he is not interested in something specific. On the other hand, those who have something in mind can drill into the database by category and streamline their searches that way. That is, a user can start at the top with all books and then decide to look at books only related to computers and the internet. If that does not yield good results he can drill further into the database.
The aim of the site is clear: keeping the user up to date on what is coming soon, as well as what is releasing now. The team responsible for it makes a valid point: people just don't have time to scour the web following all of their interests. That is why a notification system like this one is quite useful - whenever a match is found an e-mail is sent out automatically.
